In short
Tinker Lab does not set cookies, and it loads no third-party scripts that could set them. That is why you do not see a cookie banner. Your progress is kept in local storage on your device, which you control.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to keep. The browser sends them back to the website with every request, which is how sites recognise you between visits, and how advertising and analytics companies follow people across sites.
Cookies on Tinker Lab
None. We do not set first-party cookies, and there are no third-party cookies because we load no analytics, advertising, social media or embedded content from other companies. Fonts and icons are served from this site.
What we use instead: local storage
Local storage is a small space in your browser where a website can keep data on your device. Unlike cookies, it is not sent to the server with each request. Tinker Lab uses it only to provide features you use:
| Key | What it holds |
|---|---|
tinkerlab:done | Which lessons you have finished. |
tinkerlab:last | The lesson you were on, so it can reopen there. |
tinkerlab:quiz | Your quiz answers. |
tinkerlab:settings | Your preferences in the lesson app. |
other tinkerlab: keys | Code drafts and Studio builds you have saved. |
This data stays until you clear it. We cannot read it, and it is never sent to us. Because it is used only to provide features you use, and nothing is tracked, we do not ask for consent with a banner.
Clear your Tinker Lab data
This button removes every tinkerlab: entry from this browser. It does not touch data from other websites.
You can also clear it in your browser:
- Most browsers: click the icon to the left of the address bar, open the site settings, and choose to clear or delete site data.
- Chrome and Edge: Settings, Privacy, then the option to delete cookies and site data for this site.
- Firefox: Settings, Privacy & Security, Cookies and Site Data, Manage Data.
- Safari: Settings, Privacy, Manage Website Data.
In a private or incognito window, local storage is cleared when you close the window. If your browser blocks site storage, Tinker Lab still works, but your progress is not kept.
